In the capital, issues related to historical education at universities were discussed at a meeting of the commission of the Russian Historical Society. This was made possible by the XIV General Meeting of the Russian Historical Society, which was attended by representatives of the North Caucasus Federal University.
The XIV General Meeting of the Russian Historical Society, dedicated to the 160th anniversary of the founding of RIO, was held for two days. And at a meeting of the Russian Historical Society's commission on Higher Historical Education, issues related to building the structure of the national higher education system and setting admission targets for the 2027-2028 academic year were raised. One of the members of the commission was Marina Kolesnikova, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Director of the NCFU Humanitarian Institute, Chairman of the Council of the RIO Branch in the Stavropol Territory.
The subject of discussion was the fact that from September 1, students of all Russian universities in non-core areas will be required to study four subjects, including the history and foundations of Russian statehood. Representatives of Russia's leading universities discussed the development vector of this initiative, and also suggested how to organize the learning process for future historians, making it the most effective.

It is important that Marina Kolesnikova also took part in the meeting of the heads of the regional offices of RIO, where she presented the results of the Stavropol branch, shared with colleagues her experience in historical education at the university, and talked about the organization of international historical schools with students from Transcaucasia.
Ekaterina Igonina, senior lecturer at the Department of Russian History at the NCFU Humanitarian Institute, head of the RIO Youth Club in the Stavropol Territory, also took part in the forum.
In general, RIO is making great efforts to maintain a decent level of provision of universities with budget places for the training of future historians. A total of 27,700 future historians were studying in Russia at the beginning of the 2025-2026 academic year. Their training is carried out at 144 universities across the country. It was noted at the meeting that graduate historians successfully find themselves in science and many other fields, from museum business to public service.
It should be noted that a regional branch has been established at the RIO Council on the basis of NCFU, bringing together university teachers, technical schools, schools, archives, museums and media workers in the Stavropol Territory. There is also a Center of the Russian Historical Society in the North Caucasus Federal District at the NCFU site, which is an educational and research platform uniting universities in the North Caucasus.
The university itself carries out systematic work on historical education with the support of the NCFU Rector, Professor Tatiana Shebzukhova. So, in April 2026, the XI International Historical School was held at the university, organized by the Russian Historical Society and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation under the national project "Youth and Children".
