The educational project "In the Footsteps of Ermak", organized by the North Caucasus Federal University (NCFU) and the Association for the Development of Youth Active Tourism (ARMAT), has ended in the Urals. During the trip, students from 10 regions of the country touched history through tourism.
The project "In the Footsteps of Ermak", organized by ARMAT together with NCFU with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia, is aimed at patriotic education of young people and the development of a system of student tourist clubs in universities of the country. The tour Club of the Ural State Mining University "Pioneers" also co-organized the project.

In four days of hiking, the team, consisting of 25 students, covered 64 kilometers. These are experienced hikers and novice travelers from 12 universities in Russia, representing 10 regions.
– When you see how young people enthusiastically study history through the prism of travel, you understand that we are on the right track. We have shown that tourism can be not only an active recreation, but also an effective tool for patriotic education. This is just the beginning: we are developing a network of student travel clubs and creating similar projects in other regions so that as many young people as possible can touch our great history," said Sergey Tuaev, head of the NCFU Youth Center for Travel and Recreational Activities Design.
The trip began with a guided tour of Yekaterinburg. The participants were given a tour of the main sights of the city and were introduced to the Ural State Mining University, where interesting meetings awaited the students.

The culmination of the project was rafting on the Chusovaya River, which is an opportunity to follow in the footsteps of the Cossack chieftain Ermak, who is called the "conqueror of Siberia."
And along the route, participants were not only introduced to the history of the Urals' annexation, but also trained in the work of student travel clubs. They showed how tourism and history can be combined through memorable places, the rhythm of Cossack songs around the campfire, and elements of ammunition. This is how the students felt for themselves what the life of Ermak Timofeevich's squad was like.
