NCFU experts have been invited to the national radio studio to share their specific secrets of urban design with the listeners. This is not the first time our experts go on air yet creative technologies are not a frequent focus of talks. This time it was Alena Sadykova (Head of Creative Technology School, NCFU) and Dmitry Zemlyansky (Acting Head of Department for Design, Creative Technology School, NCFU) who revealed their opinions on how urban design is different from any other, and how to stand out in this case.

– A long time ago, Jan Gehl, a famous Danish designer in his book “Cities for People” described 12 criteria of urban life quality, which include protection against crime and unpleasant sensations, comfort, transport as well as a number of other key points. Urban design is just engaged in solving these issues problems seeking to help urban residents feel comfortable, feel safe and enjoy staying in the city, – Dmitry Zemlyansky noted.
Alena Sadykova agreed, while noting that elements of such design are everywhere, e.g., the pavement stone to be seen in Stavropol everywhere, and which has already become a signature element of this design. This might be even seen as a certain designer code, so once seeing it in a picture many people will know it is Stavropol.
The talk was diverse – from pure design issues to legislation, which finally left everyone at least a little more aware of the places we live in.
