Philipp Samoylov (postgraduate student, NCFU) has completed his field placement and degree paper in the University of La Sapienza (Italy), which is one of the leading academic institutions of Europe. His research focused on building trajectories for unmanned aerial vehicles.
This is the first time that a project, run jointly by the two institutions, has resulted in a PhD-degree.
– The idea behind my project was to create research sites on the premises of the two universities thus aiming to combine the competencies of researchers from both institutions, which finally resulted in the creation of software that allows controlling single quadrocopters or groups of them, – the postgraduate was quoted as saying.
Given the pandemic restrictions, a lot of work had to be done online, and weekly online-meetings were held to discuss all the details and solving some issues. Besides, Philipp had to fly to Rome several times a year to carry out experiments and get approval for the theoretical outcomes gained.
The presentation of the paper The group control of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, therefore, has become a perfect reflection of the five years spent on hard work. Now, Philipp's future plans include further work in the same area.
