Horst Pöttker – Professor, Dr. Phil and Historical Sciences. Studied German philology, sociology, philosophy and mathematics in the universities of Hamburg, Zurich, Kiel and Basle. Defended his thesis in 1978, and then worked as a research fellow, Medium journal editor, and as visiting scholar in the University of Leipzig.

In 1995 completed his PhD on sociology of communication and public media.

In 1995-2013 H. Pöttker acted as Professor of the Theory and Practice of Journalism at TU Dortmund University. In the period of 2015 to 2018 he was engaged in pedagogical and research activities as Senior Professor at the university of his home city Hamburg.

Visiting scholar at the universities of Hamburg, Iowa, Rostov o. D., St. Petersburg and Vienna.

Professor Pöttker currently continues his research activities.

Pöttker is a member of Migration Board, an honorary member of Initiative Nachrichtenaufklärunge, member of Association of Media Ombudsmen (VDMO), member of supervisory board at Haus der Pressefreiheite in Hamburg, co-editor of Public and History and International Journalism cycles. In 2002-2009 he and professor R. Heisler led the Media Integration of Ethnic Minorities in Germany, Canada and USA project.

Founder and co-editor of bilingual research online journal "Journalistik/ Journalism Research".

Co-founder and publisher of review forum on communication studies and the theory of media "Rezension: kommunikation: medien" (r:k:m) (http://www.rkm-journal.de/).

Founder and co-editor of the "Journalistikon" journalism web-dictionary (http://journalistikon.de/).

Co-founder of the "German and Russian publicists of the 20th Century" series.
