At the general meeting of the Stavropol Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society, held at the North Caucasus Federal University, Acting Rector of NCFU Professor Tatiana Shebzukhova was unanimously elected Chairman of the department. Nikolay Vershigora, Deputy Director of the Regional Development Department of the Russian Geographical Society Executive Directorate, took part in the event.

During the meeting, the updated composition of the Council, the working bodies of the regional branch and the audit commission were approved, and priority areas of work were outlined: expanding the network of RGS city offices in the region, supporting local offices, involving students and young scientists in the activities of the society, scaling successful projects.

A roadmap of events has been approved for 2026, which provides for the organization of multi-day hikes through the regions of the North Caucasus, speleological expeditions to the Chatyr-Dagh and Bolshoy Thach plateaus, photo exhibitions about nature and cities of the Stavropol Territory, the implementation of the GEOlogika project (lecture hall and paleontological expedition in the Karachay-Cherkess Republic), the organization of an ethnographic exhibition of the doll collection Stavropol province, as well as holding an action in the field of patriotic and local history education with the participation of residents of different regions. In addition, the department plans to actively participate in grant competitions of the Russian Geographical Society and other specialized sites.

For reference: in 2025, the Stavropol Regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society demonstrated high efficiency and took the third place in the rating of regional branches of the society.
