An employee of the North Caucasus Federal University became a guest of the program "We are Talking Today" on Radio Russia Stavropol, where she spoke about key areas of work, the demand for expertise and the development of language testing for foreign citizens.
The Center for Linguistic Expertise and Testing in the Russian Language of the North Caucasus Federal University is located in Stavropol and has been operating since 2011, and received the head office status in 2018. This allowed us to build a network of partner sites and strengthen the university's position as one of the leading universities in organizing a comprehensive exam in Russian as a foreign language. At the same time, the field of linguistic expertise is developing there, related to the analysis of texts in the framework of civil and criminal proceedings.
Russian Russian as a foreign language for those foreign citizens who come to the territory of the Russian Federation, – said Elvira Lavrik, Director of the NCFU Center for Linguistic Expertise and Testing of the Russian language. – The center includes the following applied areas of linguistics, in fact, in accordance with the name: linguistic expertise and research and testing in Russian as a foreign language for those foreign citizens who come to the territory of the Russian Federation. - said Elvira Lavrik, Director of the NCFU Center for Linguistic Expertise and Testing of the Russian language.
During the broadcast, the expert also noted that the examination procedures include computer testing with elements of automated verification, as well as a mandatory oral part for advanced levels. At the same time, a significant proportion of participants do not pass the test the first time, despite preliminary training.

Linguistic expertise, according to the expert, has significantly expanded the scope of application: from establishing the authorship of texts to analyzing modern Internet communications, including polycode messages with images and emojis. The work uses interdisciplinary approaches combining linguistics, psychology and cultural studies.
Special attention is paid to the training of specialists and the level of their professional responsibility.
– But in order to be a good expert, you also need to know the techniques and go through some kind of professional development program, and they exist. He doesn't need to be a lawyer, but you need to understand the measure of responsibility for what you write in your expertise, because it sometimes determines a person's fate. And, of course, it should be a person with a broad outlook, with deep knowledge in the field of philology," shared Elvira Lavrik.
It is worth noting that the demand for linguistic expertise continues to grow, which is associated with an increase in the number of speech offenses and the development of the digital environment. At the same time, there remains a shortage of qualified experts who are able to work at the intersection of science and law.
