Russian Education & Science Authorities Focus on Support to Youth
The Russian National Coordinating Council for Support to Young Talents was held with two Ministers presiding the event – Valery Falkov (Ministry of Science and Higher Education) and Sergey Kravtsov (Minister of Education).
The participants came together to discuss developing an effective system for identifying talents in children and youth.
– The Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education does a lot to create conditions ghat would help young people open up in terms of their talents, including offering grants to university students featuring some extraordinary capabilities. Starting this academic year, such support is to be offered to those pursuing a Master’s degree. As we are celebrating the Year of Science and Technology, one of the priorities here is to involve as many talented youngsters as we can, as well as to develop respective public support measures for young researchers, – Mr. Falkov was quoted as saying.

Among other issues discussed, the participants dwelled on improved conditions for holding contests among schoolers.
– Last year, we had to cancel the final stage of the Russian Olympics for schoolers, and to announce winners based on the regional stage outcomes, which caused a lot of questions regarding preferential admission to universities. I suggest that at our next meetings we discuss approaches to improving the respective procedures for holding such contests, - the Russian Education Minister Sergey Kravtsov noted.
