For the first time, a delegation from the North Caucasus Federal University is taking part in the Sino-Russian Rock Mechanics Forum in Harbin. They also discussed the roadmap for the implementation of the joint Institute of Intelligent Engineering.

On May 17, 2026, the XIV Sino-Russian International Forum "Deep Rock Mechanics and Engineering" opened in Harbin (Heilongjiang Province, China). It brought together scientists, engineers and researchers from two countries. The event is aimed at solving topical issues of subsurface development and mining. This Forum has become a key event in the business program of the Tenth Russian-Chinese EXPO.

The event became a platform for a constructive dialogue between experts in the field of geomechanics. Over the course of several days, the participants will review new methods and technologies applicable when working at great depths. The Forum is being held to expand practical cooperation between the subjects of the Russian Federation and the provinces of the People's Republic of China.

"For NCFU, as the flagship university of the North Caucasus, participation in an event of this level is of particular importance, we give priority to engineering sciences, including the study of rocks and geomechanical processes in conditions of increased seismicity in our macroregion. The joint project of the Heilongjiang University of Science and Technology and NCFU – the Chinese-Russian Institute of Intelligent Engineering, the decision to establish which was signed in early 2026, will be an important step in strengthening the bilateral partnership," commented NCFU Rector Professor Tatiana Shebzukhova.

Also, as part of the NCFU delegation's work in China, a meeting was held with the rector of the Heilongjiang University of Science and Technology, Professor Meng Shangjiu, on the establishment and organization of the joint Chinese-Russian Institute of Intelligent Engineering.

NCFU and Heilongjiang University of Science and Technology (PRC) established a joint Chinese‑Russian Institute of Intelligent Engineering in February 2026. It was aimed at Chinese students who will be trained in three bachelor's degrees and three master's degrees in electric power engineering and IT.

Each year, 300 people will be recruited for bachelor's degree programs and 150 people for master's degree programs. Graduates will receive double diplomas.

The Heilongjiang University of Science and Technology will provide a material base for the joint project, and NCFU will send highly qualified teachers to China to implement educational programs.

The project is designed for 15 years and can be extended by agreement of the parties.
