Maksim Ogur (Senior Lecturer, Dept for Computer Safety), joined the Russian National Contest for postgraduates and young researchers to present his project focusing on intrusion detection using multi-vector attack scenarios in a decentralized IoT environment, which finally earned him a well-deserved prize.

– Multi-vector attacks are complex threats using various vectors or paths to penetrate the system. Imagine, there is an intruder who is not only trying to get through your front door, yet also tries windows, basement and even the roof at the same time! This makes detection and protection against such attacks especially difficult, - Maxim said.
Besides, the method that Maksim has developed is effective not only when identifying the attacks but also in forecasting potential effects, which makes it especially valuable. As Fariza Tibueva (research supervisor) noted, the project offers a new and an extremely promising tool to enhance security in the Internet of things.
Now the next step for the participants of the contest is to complete a research paper focusing on the main issue of the project, to receive a finding of RUR 1200000.
