NCFU Students Arrange Bookcrossing

Aleksandra Kotlova and Irina Yatsenko (students, Institute of Humanities, NCFU) initiated bookcrossing for the university.

Bookcrossing implies exchange of books among people who may be complete strangers, while using a specially designated place with a bookshelf installed there for the purpose. The idea is to take a book one may like and bring one in exchange from one’s personal stock. Upon reading, though, the book is to be returned back so that others could enjoy.

– We have had this idea for quite a while, yet just did not have a clear view of how to do that, – Aleksandra Kotlova shared her ideas. – At first, we wanted to have it for our department only and keep the interest up through social media, like highlighting the most interesting books and even hosting quiz shows. However, it seemed a little complicated, and just involving one department is not a big deal for something so much captivating and important.

The two found a lot of support coming from Olga Ganzhara (Assistant Director for Education, Institute of Humanities), who not only liked the initiative yet also brought her own books.

Now, the bookcrossing is not truly popular among students but among teachers, too.

– It’s making me more than happy – I am double happy – since this has been arranged in the Institute of Humanities. Bravo, NCFU! You are true people of Humanities, – Gennady Khazanov (Cinema expert, NCFU) was quoted as saying.

To enjoy the resource, anyone is welcome – Floor 1, Building 20, #1 Pushkina Street, Stavropol. Besides, there is a little basket next to the shelf, where everyone can leave a note asking for a particular author. Welcome to the World of Humanities!
