Konstantin Musaev delivered a great performance at the World Open Classic Powerlifting Championships – the major event in this sport. He took gold in the weight category of 120 kg thus setting a European record.

The City of Halmstad (Sweden) hosted the World Open Classic Powerlifting Championships, which brought together over 600 best athletes competing in 8 categories, ranging from 59 kg to 120+ kg.

The Russian sportsmen performed under a neutral flag, and ended up winning 20 various awards. One of the best performances belonged to Konstantin Musaev – a 24-year old student of the faculty for Physical Education & Sport of NCFU. The category of 120 kg had 14 sportsmen each determined to win – from Great Britain, Turkey, Canada, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, India, Poland and Kazakhstan. The Russian sportsman, even though was 3^rd in squats and bench press (327.5 kg and 225 kg, respectively) still managed to pass by everyone thanks to his impressive deadlift result – 375 kg (European record), scoring 927.5 in total and arriving at a new record of Europe.

– This was my first time at the world championship, yet I was ready to win only, – the athlete confessed afterwards. – I am happy with my results. On the first after the winners were announced I could hardly realize what had happened. I am really happy to present our country in the best way possible. Now am getting ready for another contest – Russian Cup, which is to be held in March, 2002, in the City of Tula (Russia).
