Ahmed Giulmagomedov (student, college of the NCFU) has climbed Orizaba – North America’s highest volcano (5636 m.) and the third highest mountain.

Ahmed did not climb the peak alone yet with his father and a group of alpinists.

– We had to climb with no proper rest, actually – sleeping is not basically impossible at hat height. The first 1,000 meters of vertical climb were extremely interesting. The foot of the volcano is rocky, which makes it so dangerous indeed since certain spots are icy, and the path we walked was so narrow. Once we reached 5,000 meters, it got really hard since we had to go up a glacier, and the slope was getting worse and worse increased all the time. The bad part was that the hands at such a height froze so we just could not feel them, - Ahmed was quoted as saying.

– We moved along the glacier in 20-30-meter-long traverses, like a long snake, changing direction all the time. However, we were lucky as the weather was good, – Ahmed added. – Once you climb the top, you feel it all accomplished so much!

Ahmed says he is truly proud he made it to the top, and considers the whole event as a way to mark NCFU’s 10^th anniversary, with the University’s flag now twisting in the wind on top of Orizaba!

– Hope this will serve a food example and motivation for all those who like mountains and would like have a climb not because of yet despite something, thus promoting this industry in our country, – Ahmed concluded.
