NCFU Launches Russia’s First Cyber-Threat Counteraction Center
The North-Caucasus Federal University has established a new center, the purpose of that being counteracting cyber-threats. The newly established division will be supervised by Alexander Malkevich – an outstanding Russian journalist, Head of Working group for fake information control and Internet users’ rights protection.
– We can see that fakes have become nowadays the main threat to humanity. And this year only we have got nearly 5 mln fake reports attacking our country, which means there should be some well-arranged and systemic counteraction designed, and this, in turn, will take knowledge relying on research. It is of symbolic value that the NCFU has decided to establish such a center, because the North Caucasus can boast of an IT-school, which is rated among the best ones, – Mr. Malkevich was quoted as saying.
While commenting on the event, Dmitry Bespalov (Rector, NCFU) noted:
– We can see that Russia’s foes produce lots of fake news, which goes to the media aiming to misinform the global community and our people. In order to counteract this, we will need advanced digital tools, and this is why the center has been established, – Mr. Bespalov noted.
The major activity of the Center is to monitor and analyze digital threats, as well as to develop methodological guidelines and tools that can be employed to identify and eliminate fake information.
