The production of the unique product will be funded with a grant from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia.

The production of lactulose prebiotic and functional dairy ingredients is now being carried out by the North-Caucasus Federal University jointly with the Stavropol Dairy Plant, which will eventually help substitute imports in medicine, veterinary medicine, baby nutrition, as well as therapeutic and preventive medical products for both humans and animals.

– There is no industrial production of lactulose in Russia. In 2020 only, Russia imported around 3000 tons of lactulose-based medicines, as well as more than 250 tons of nutritional lactulose. I believe that our national lactulose will gain its due place in the global production, – Dmitry Bespalov (Rector, NCFU) was quoted as saying.

The research will be carried out by the NCFU experts at the Center for Biotechnological Engineering, Faculty of Food Engineering and Biotechnology, and the Department for   Milk & Dairy Technology established jointly with the Stavropol Dairy Plant.
