NCFU DESIGNS DENTAL IMPLANTS WITH BIOCOMPATIBLE COATING

The research team of the NCFU has developed a method for producing titanium dioxide-based biocompatible coatings for dental implants. The new technology is outstanding as it allows reducing the likelihood of developing complications and improve rehabilitation following a respective dental surgery.

Dentistry nowadays uses titanium-based alloys a lot, yet the national manufacturers account for no more than 5% of such products. Now, the NCFU experts jointly with their colleagues from the Stavropol State Medical University have joined the project focusing the development of unique implants, the project being carried out through IMPLANT ADDITIVE TECHNOLOGIES – a small-scale innovative enterprise.

– The unique part of the spraying process is that a uniform coating is developed on the entire surface, regardless of its shape and geometry. At the same time, there are strict criteria to be met – the film thickness is up to 40 nanometers, while it features exceptional uniformity, density and porosity, - Vitaly Tarala (expert, NCFU) noted.

The implants designed reveal high strength and can compete with the world’s best products of the same type.

The pilot batch of the implants has been issued already, with the industrial sample ready to be used.
