The Chemistry Faculty of the North Caucasus Federal University has opened three new profiles that meet the most modern challenges of science and production. The national project "New Materials and Chemistry" helped to update educational programs.
In the 2025/2026 academic year, the NCFU Faculty of Chemistry began implementing updated educational programs developed within the framework of the federal project "Advanced training and retraining of qualified personnel in the field of new materials and chemistry" of the national project "New Materials and Chemistry".
Three profiles are opened for students, which celebrate the modern challenges of science and production – these are 04.03.01 Chemistry: "Organic and medical Chemistry" and "Environmental Chemistry, chemical expertise and environmental safety", as well as 18.03.01 Chemical technology: "Basic organic and petrochemical synthesis".

– The launch of these programs is due to the high demand for specialists, as there is currently a huge shortage of personnel for both chemists and chemical technologists. The launch of new educational programs is our contribution to the implementation of the strategic national project "New Materials and Chemistry". In close cooperation with the country's leading universities and the largest employers in the region, we train specialists capable of ensuring Russia's technological sovereignty in the field of modern chemistry and new materials," said Alexander Aksenov, Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, Professor.
Students studying in these areas will not only gain relevant knowledge in the field of creating and applying new materials, but will also gain unique experience working with modern high-tech equipment.
But the main feature of the updated programs is their close integration with the real sector of the economy and the country's leading scientific centers. Methodological support is provided by the TSU Center for Advanced Training and Retraining of Qualified Personnel in the field of New Materials and Chemistry. The Chemical Technology program is implemented in a network format with the Mendeleev Russian University of Chemical Technology (RHTU), which allows NCFU students to learn from the experience of one of the oldest and most reputable technical universities in the country.

The updated curricula are based on a practice-oriented approach implemented with the direct participation of key employers in the Stavropol Territory. The industrial partners who provided their expert opinions and requirements for the competencies of future specialists were various regional chemical industry companies, including the Stavropol branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution Rosagrokhimluzhba, the Federal State Budgetary Institution Severo-Kavkazsky CSM, the ESCOM Scientific and Production Concern and JSC Nevinnomyssky Azot.
Multilateral cooperation between leading universities and industrial enterprises makes it possible to train advanced, versatile and in-demand specialists capable of solving complex technological tasks today. And NCFU continues to strengthen its position in training personnel for strategic industries with new directions.
