A historian of the North Caucasus Federal University prepared an invoice and took part in the filming of an educational multi-format project about the life and work of Georgy Arsenievich Emanuel, a general of the Russian army, a statesman of the Russian Empire, a participant in the Patriotic War of 1812 and the head of the Caucasian region.

At the center of the project is the fate of a man who was born outside of Russia, but connected his whole life with it. Emanuel rose from a young officer to a general in the Russian army, participated in the Battle of Borodino, was repeatedly wounded and proved himself to be a brave military leader and statesman.  His life shows how personal choice, responsibility, and daily service can become part of a country's great history.

Olga Shafranova, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Russian History at the Institute of Humanities, Head of the Basic Department of Caucasus and Museum Studies at the NCFU Institute of Humanities, spoke about the historical role of Georgy Emanuel:

– He is an outstanding commander and administrator. In addition to his military achievements, he did a lot for the construction of not only fortresses in the Caucasus, but also contributed to the development of the cities of the Caucasian Mineral Waters. Largely due to his activities, resorts began to develop. Construction of the first bathing pools, improvement of roads and public places. Under his leadership, the first expedition to Elbrus allowed scientists of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences to obtain unique research.

The project includes three series of documentaries, a longrid, an audio podcast, and a series of publications for social networks and digital platforms.

A separate line of the project is dedicated to Emanuel's activities in the Caucasus. In 1826, he was appointed head of the Caucasus region. In this position, the general dealt not only with military issues, but also with building relations with mountain societies. Diplomacy, negotiations and interaction with representatives of the peoples of the region played an important role in his work.

The filming of the project took place in historical and natural locations of the North Caucasus, related to the life and work of the general, the history of the region and the expedition to Elbrus.

"The War and Peace of General Emanuel" tells about military service, diplomacy, scientific discoveries and the fate of a man who became a part of Russian history. Through the biography of one hero, the project shows the complex historical processes of the first half of the 19th century and the interaction of people of different nationalities and cultures.

Special attention in the project is paid to the modern way of telling the story - in different versions it will be available to a young online audience.

The General Emanuel War and Peace project is being implemented with the support of the Internet Development Institute. The North Caucasus Federal University provides expert support for the implementation of the multi-format project.
