Drones as a Cloud of Bees
NCFU researchers are currently working on a system for managing groups of UAVs based on hive intelligence. This means entire-group behavior patterns aimed at completing certain missions.
The automated system management has traditionally been performed through a single center. However, this principle features certain downsides, and now researchers all over the world are seeking to develop a hive-intelligence based mechanism – a multi-agent team with a self-organizing capacity.
As Vladimir Antonov (Associate Professor, Dept for Computer Security, Institute of Digital Development, NCFU) noted, the idea comes from nature itself. Self-organizing systems are more viable, and the entire project aims to improve the interaction among robotic agents.
– The main purpose of these developments is the practical implementation of the technology and its industrial launch. NCFU is working within a number of hi-tech areas, which will finally help solving problems of the national level thus ensuring Russia’s overall capacity, – Dmitry Bespalov (Rector, NCFU) was quoted as saying.
As NCFU researchers claim, once the tests are over, the UAV can be used in areas requiring analytical activities, such as places of chemical and nuclear contamination, agriculture, and many more.
