Institute of Electric Power Engineering, Electronics and Nano-technologies

Institute of Electric Power Engineering, Electronics and Nano-technologies was established in July 2012 on the basis of two chairs of Faculty of Energetics, Mechanical Engineering and Transport and three chairs of Faculty of Electronics, Nanotechnologies and Chemical Technologies.

On September 1, 2012 contingent of full-time students at Institute of Electric Power Engineering, Electronics and Nano-technologies is 631 people.

 

In accordance with federal state standards of higher professional education of the third generation chairs of the Institute perform training of bachelors (4 years of study) and masters (2 additional years of study) in the following areas:

140400.62 Power Engineering and Electrical Engineering (Bachelors programme, training profiles: electric systems and networks, electric power supply, relay protection and automatics);

  • 140400.68 Power Engineering and Electrical Engineering (Masters programme, programme "Monitoring and mode control of electric networks on the basis of intelligent information and measuring systems and technologies);
  • 150100.62 Material Science and Materials Technology (Bachelors programme);
  • 150100.68 Material Science and Materials Technology (Masters programme, programme "Material science and technologies of nanomaterials and nanosystems);
  • 210100.62 Electronics and Nanoelectronics (Bachelors programme);
  • 210100.68 Electronics and Nanoelectronics (Masters programme, programme "Nanoelectronics).
  • Additionally in accordance with State Educational Standard of Higher Professional Education of the second generation students of 3-5 courses continue their study in the following areas of Bachelor and Specialists programmes at the Institute:

All main areas of training at the Institute are oriented on modern demands of electric power industry, enterprises of electronics, production of semiconductor technics and development of high-technology material science in the whole region.

By Order No. 1925/770 dated 08.09.2009 Dissertation Council 212.245.06 is established under NCSTU (now NCFU), where dissertations for the degrees of Doctor and Candidate of Physics, Mathematics and Engineering are presented in the following fields:

  • 01.04.07 Condensed State Physics;
  • 05.14.02 Power Stations and Electrical Power Systems.

Educational process at the Institute is implemented by 64 highly qualified teachers, including 11 Doctors of Science, Professors (17% of the total number of teachers), as well as 35 Candidates of Science, Associate Professors (54,7% of the total number of teachers).

Average age of the teaching staff is 46 years.

 

Active research work at the Institute is performed in the following fields:


Chair of Automatic Electrical Power Systems and Electric Power Supply: 

  • development of theory and practice of information technologies application in electrical power engineering on the basis of WAMS/WACS technologies and Smart Grid concept;
  • development of theory of electrical power systems reliability assessment and training of operating and dispatching personnel;
  • experimental investigation and improvement of industrial gages in electrical power engineering;
  • analysis of modes and losses of electric power in 0,38 110 kV electric networks of the region, development of technical and organizational measures to decrease them, to standardize electric power losses;
  • development of energy saving measures for education institutions and enterprises of the region.

Chair of Theoretic and General Electrical Engineering:

  • analysis of electrokinetic phenomena in disperse systems;
  • electrical power systems reliability;
  • mathematical simulation of machine and valve systems.

Chair of Technology of Nanomaterials:

  • synthesis of biologically active nanoparticles and study of their physical, chemical, medical and biological properties;
  • synthesis and analysis of properties of diamond-like materials;
  • synthesis and analysis of new materials for solar energy;
  • analysis of processes of optical nanoceramics formation.

Chair of Physics and Electronics:

  • analysis by methods of electron spectroscopy of surface and interphase boundaries of section in systems of metal-dielectric, metal-dielectric-conductor and solid solutions on the basis of 35 compound semiconductors;
  • development and analysis of sources of charged particles and plasma, which shall be used in electronic-ion-plasma technologies;
  • analysis of optical, electrophysical, photoelectric, luminescent characteristic features of layers and films, as well as diode-like electroluminescent structures and photoelectric transformers for the needs of optoelectronics.

Chairs of the Institute signed long-term cooperation contracts with a number of enterprises not only in Stavropol region, but the whole Russia. Active cooperation is carried out to improve quality of training and educational process with the largest companies of electric power industry: JSC "System operator of Unified energy system (JSC "SO UES), JSC "Federal Grid Company of Unified energy system (JSC "FSK EES), JSC "Rushydro, JSC "Holding MRSK; enterprises of electrotechnical instrument engineering in the region: JSC "Concern "Energomera, JSC "Signal, JSC "Scheme, JSC "Electroautomatics; Federal Budgetary Institution "State regional centre of standardization, metrology and testing in Stavropol region; JSC "Podolsk chemical and metallurgical plant. Demand for highly qualified alumni of the Institute is much higher than the current offer in the region.

The University is in the list of basic institutions of higher education of JSC "SO UES on the specialized training of students, which is realized within the framework of contracts, providing internships and practice of students at working places in branches of the society and participation of its leading specialists in educational process. According to the results of specialized training in 2010-2012 years 7 alumni are hired in UDM of power systems in the Southern part and North-Caucasus RDM. Cooperation agreement with Branch of JSC "FSK EES Bulk Power Networks of the Southern part is signed in 2011, within the framework of which material and technical assistance is rendered to re-equip laboratories; excursions are organized; practice at working places; competitions of student scientific works; work of student construction brigades at construction of extra-high-voltage transmission lines; additional scholarships are paid to students, who have good and excellent marks and would like to work at Bulk Power Networks of the Southern part after graduation.
