Valery Falkov (Minister of Science and Higher Education of Russia) jointly with the Yevgeny Primakov (Head, Russian Cooperation Agency) and representatives of other Ministries, held a meeting with Rectors of Russian universities focusing on the universities preparedness to work with foreign students within the new coronavirus infection context.
Mr. Falkov noted that the issue under consideration is a difficult one, while the Ministry has collected detailed data regarding the situation in each of the Russian universities to further pass it to the Government to make respective decisions.
As Valery Falkov said, universities are ready to take all measures to safely accommodate students, yet they are aware that there is a risk of a new outbreak, it is not an easy task to offer 14-day isolation for coming foreigners, which would mean withdrawing some vacant rooms from residence halls. Besides, that might result in a surge of new cases of the coronavirus in areas that are home to numerous universities.
Another point that the Minister stressed was special work with freshmen coming to study from abroad since they should know that they will get all support they might need, so constant interaction is important.
