The North-Caucasus Federal University has hosted the AI Hackathon – the third out of 116 educational events to be held in all areas of Russia within the Artificial Intelligence National Project. And this time two of the NCFU’s teams were named among the winners.
The Hackathon participants – 2 teams, 9 of which have advanced to the finals – were offered 48 hours to solve a mathematical case thus contributing to eliminating wild fires.
As the results came out, the following teams were announced as the winners:
- Profit (St. Petersburg, Moscow, Stavropol)
- AIForestFire (Stavropol, NCFU)
- There Is A Way Out (Stavropol, NCFU).
These winners are the ones who will share the Prize Fund – RUR 400,000.
– The solution we have offered implies not just forecasting the entire area of the fire yet also identifying the exact outlines of it. While transforming the models into specific images, the fire behavior can be easily predicted. The advantage of our model is that we can add an unlimited number of factors, whereas the principle the model relies on will never change, – Mikhail Gurchinsky (AIForestFire team, NCFU) was quoted as saying.
The next AI Hackathon is to be held in the City of Veliky Novgorod (Russia), Sep 10-12, 2021, where the contestants will focus on developing an algorithm for anti-corruption expert evaluation of legal acts.
