Anastasia Goncharenko (Master’s degree student, NCFU) has won the VIII Russian Contest of Research Projects in Biology & Ecology.
The event included three stages where the participants were to submit their projects at their respective universities first, then advance to the selection round, after which ten finalists were to join an online conference.
Anastasia’s project focused on studying the Staphylococcus epidermidis resistance to certain essential oils.
– I carried out my experiment at the Department of General Biology & Biodiversity, my supervisor being Elena Kharina, – Anastasia noted. – As raw stuff, we used spruce, pine, fir tree and juniper that we collected in the highlands of Arkhyz. We produced oils in two ways – hot and cold pressing, after which we tested them in the laboratory.
This has been not Anastasia’s first success – last year she took bronze in the same contest arranged by Samara State University of Social Sciences and Education.
