Date of material placement: 12-10-2018, 14:11.

Nadezhda Akchurina (Pro-Rector for Administrative Activities, NCFU), and Lyudmila Alieva (Head of the Department for International Projects and Programs) are visiting Lebanon, whereas the visit is part of the academic activities aimed at offering support to the Russian professional training and attracting Russian citizens residing abroad as well as foreign students to come and pursue their degrees in Russia.

Beirut (Lebanon) hosted the grand opening of the first in the Arab world academic show of Russian universities, with 18 Russian higher educational institutions, including NCFU, represented. The special guests attending the event were Alexander Zasypkin (Russia’s Ambassador to Lebanon), Vadim Zaichikov (Head of the Russian Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation /Rossotrudnichestvo/ in Lebanon), Fuad Ayub (Rector, Lebanon State University), and Ahmad Jamal (representative of the Education Ministry of Lebanon). The event offered potential Lebanese students a way to a top-quality yet quite affordable training.

- I am very pleased to see the first exhibition of Russian universities held in Lebanon. Here, students love to go to French, American and other universities. Now they have an alternative – Fuad Ayub was quoted as saying, - They will have a chance to continue their training within a number of fields that are not available in Lebanon, or that are limited here.

- Our education is competitive and has many important advantages – Vadim Zaichikov noted, - so people coming from various areas of Lebanon, and belonging to various confessions, can get training in Russia not only based on the available quotas yet but also on a paid basis.

The representatives of the Federal University also joined a round-table discussion along with those coming from the leading Russian and Lebanese universities, while the event itself was held at the Ministry of Enlightenment and Higher Education of the Lebanese Republic. Representatives of more than 30 universities discussed the current status and potential development of bilateral cooperation in the areas of training and research. The colleagues exchanged specific proposals on possible academic exchange between universities of the two countries, including a unique opportunity to undergo training not in one Russian university only but also in the network of partner universities, like in the network of federal universities, for instance.

Besides, the parties revealed interest in the teaching staff exchange, both on a short- and long-term basis, which could be visiting for joint research, preparing applications for Russian and international grants, and, as a result, to increase the number of jointly published items in international journals.

In the nearest days, the exhibition of Russian universities is to be held in the major cities of Lebanon, after which it will move to Damascus (Syria).
