Master in Hygienic Design – now it is real true!

What can be more relevant and important than our health and well-being? Among all of the possible answers, these depend on the quality and safety of foods that we consume on a daily basis. North-Caucasus Federal University (NCFU, RU) has become the first institution in the world to offer training with a Masters programme in Hygienic Engineering and Design, which aims support of the European Hygienic and Design Group (EHEDG - https://www.ehedg.org/) especially the Macedonian (prof. Vladimir Kakurinov) and Russian (prof. Andrey Bratsikhin) regional sections! The programme is developing and integrating modern hygiene aspects into food processing machines and tool design as well as maintenance and operations in the fields of food technology and engineering, pharmacy, biotechnology, cosmetics and chemical engineering.

 

The official language of the programme is English, and teaching is full-time for two years with four semesters that include disciplines such as legislation in food safety and hygienic engineering, hazards in hygienic processing, food processes and apparatus, hygienic factory design for food processing, hygienic design of food processing equipment, cleaning and disinfection, machine installation, maintenance and lubricants, welding in food engineering, food technologies for products from animal and plant origins, biotechnology and pharmaceutical technology, verification of hygienic design, assessment methods for food equipment and certification, and food safety systems and standards. Each of the topics will have theoretical as practical aspects. All of our students will be involved in scientific research, overseen by professors in a variety of food and food-related areas. The academic year starts on 1st October, 2018 and tuition is 210 000 Rubles (≈ 2 850 €) per year.

The official opening ceremony will take place at NCFU on 2nd October, 2018 with guests from the EHEDG Executive Committee attending as well as food businesses. We are proud to announce that Dr Huub Lelieveld, President of the Global Harmonization Initiative, Member of the Executive Committee, former President of EFFoST (European Federation of Food Science and Technology) and Founder and former President of EHEDG, has agreed to participate in the Opening Ceremony. We thank Dr Vladimir Kakurinov for agreeing to take part in this ceremony and delivering some of the lecturers.

Who are our prospective students? We are sure that this Masters programme would be useful for:

  • Graduated students (Bachelor, Master, Diploma degrees) in Mechanical engineering, Food engineering, Food Science, Food Technology; Biotechnology;
  • Standardisation and Certification, Microbiology, Pharmacy, Chemical engineering;
  • Specialists from food enterprises, machinery units, pharmacy companies;
  • Quality assurance and food safety staff, food safety regulators and auditors specialised in machinery, foods, beverage, cosmetics, pharmaceutical, biotechnology and chemical industries.

In addition, we welcome applications from those interested in food hygiene who want to be specialists in this area. Hygienic design and food safety are key trends globally, meaning graduates of this course will be able to solve many of the current problems in these areas and improve food quality and safety for everyone.

  5. Date of the Order for those granted admission to be issued: 28thof September, 2018.
