NCFU Hosted Special Guests from China

Date of material placement: 6-10-2015, 10:27.

A group of teachers and students of School № 3 from Zhènjiāng (Jiāngsū Province, China) visited North-Caucasus Federal University. The Chinese City is a twin-city to Stavropol and the visit was part of the Russia-China Year of Youth Exchange, which was approved in 2014 by President Vladimir Putin and Xí Jìnpíng, TheGeneral Secretary of the Communist Party of China. Mutual visits for youth is one of the major areas of cooperation involving Administration of Stavropol, NCFU, and School № 24 (Stavropol, Russia) where students study Chinese.

Straight from the plane the Chinese guests came to a large event arranged by NCFU – BiblioNight-2015, where the greatest impression they got while visiting the Russian Home where they enjoyed Russian cracknels, tea, and could learn how to paint the traditional Russian dolls – Matrioshkas.

Next day, led by Elena Dobrynina (International Coordinator for Institute of Humanities) they visited School № 24 and attended a concert staged by the NCFU students, enjoying Lermontov’s poetry, violin music, and Russian songs. The Chinese students, however, proved equally talented and they recited Chinese poems and sang songs. The jointly successful event ended with souvenirs and a joint picture afterwards.

The schoolchildren from China, however, could enjoy not only man-made beauty yet also see the nature – they visited the most famous places of interest in our City, while the Wolf’s Gate was a special treat – the view it offers from a point at 600 m above sea is spectacular, and won the hearts of both the kids and the teachers.

Yet, a visit to Russia can be never complete without getting to know its major treasure – the language. The teachers of NCFU delivered two classes to the delegation, after which the guests could easily say in Russia phrases like I AM FROM CHINA, HALLO, YES, and NO, with actually no accent.

When asked about the major result of the visit he leader of the Chinese delegation said that the children were shy at first but they could easily open up seeing the friendly attitude and sincere interest taken by the Russian party. And now the land of Stavropol is not strange any more – this is a place where they have friends.
