Delegation of Switzerland Visiting NCFU

Date of material placement: 23-06-2014, 17:26.

Representatives of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (Switzerland) visited NCFU.

Prof. Urs Wagenseil (Head of Tourism) and Dr. Julianna Priskin (Head of the Major Tourism), as well as the Director of Brit Education & Travel, Soslan Salamov discussed with the NCFU Administration various issues related to cooperation between the two institutions, particularly stressing the need to develop joint degree programmes for Bachelor’s and Master’s students.

Alina Levitskaya, Rector of NCFU, noted that NCFU, even though the youngest of all the Federal Universities, was selected by the Russian Government as the leading site to raise highly qualified and competent specialists to be further employed in the area of Tourism and Recreation, which is experiencing intensive development in the Caucasus currently.

Each of the six Republics in the region will have huge recreation facilities built (alpine, balneological, etc.), and by 2025 NCFU together with some other Russian universities is to qualify over 100,000 experts in the area. This explains the importance of training and retraining of NCFU’s teachers, including in Lucerne, which has a lot to offer.

Another potentially promising option for the two parties is to launch a double diploma programme as well as joint research projects.

The delegation visited NCFU’s facilities in Pyatigorsk where Dmitry Sumskoy (First Pro-Rector) and Marina Martynenko (Deputy Director for Academic Affairs, Pyatigorsk) told the visitors about each of the five faculties. Mr. Wagenseil and Ms. Priskin were surprised at the number of students and the approaches in teaching, also noting the high level of competence in the staff.

The visit ended with a tour around Pyatigorsk, which could not but include trips to the Resort Hotels that are NCFU partners, and which offer their premises for student field placement as well as for workshops.
