Sports Tradition at NCFU – GO!

Date of material placement: 1-11-2013, 16:53.

The North-Caucasus Federal University held the sport contest FRESHMAN’ CUP-2013. Around a thousand of students who first came here in September were representing their institutes in six sports. The winners got their cups, medals and certificates while the audience got lots of positive emotions.

The final contest included long jump and tug-of-war. The total length of the jumps and the sum total of strength brought the teams together and this solidarity and determination were something that was very unique to the teams, which was noted by the supervisors of this contest Mikhail Denisov (Head of Department for Sports) and Tatiana Prokopenko (Head of Department for Physical Education).

Mikhail Denisov:

- We could see what our freshmen are up to. They are in a very good shape. Volleyball, basketball, mini-football – as freshmen they are rather good here. The coaches selected the most prominent ones to be further trained in national teams and sport clubs. And the interesting part is that most students are not form the Institute of Education, not from the Department of Sports but from the Institute of Economics and Management as well as from the Institute of Law.

Tatiana Prokopenko gave a summary:

- The contest was really exciting as we got here mixed volleyball teams (boys and girls) and we also have a female team in mini-football. The FRESHMAN’S CUP is a very good tradition, which, I think, is held nowhere else but at the NCFU. And this is a very good way to select the most promising sportsmen as soon as they step in here. By the way, this is also brings students together helping them feel united.

Mikhail Denisov says proudly:

- In the two weeks we had no single conflict here; by the first mini-football match the students did not even know the names of their teammates. Now you can see they are giving each other hugs and celebrating together, and this is just in two weeks. The contest has brought the most athletic freshmen together.

And these students account for no less than one fifth of all the freshmen at our University. Already now we can say that the sports tradition of the North-Caucasus Federal University has started.

The entire body of coaches and teachers involved is grateful to the administration of the NCFU for their support during the contest.

The results of the final contest (tug-of-war and long jump): 1st – Institute of Education and Social Sciences; 2nd – Institute of Economics and Management;

3rd - Institute of construction, transport and engineering.
