In the morning of April 5 there were a lot of people in the foyer before the conference hall of NCFU building No. 1. Holiday-dressed respectable people gathered near the exhibition of the scientific monographs by the university’s scientists. They exchanged views on those works, discussed eternal subjects for teachers, such as how to stimulate students’ desire to study and ways of their engagement in research work.

The presented editions devoted practically to all spheres of science, from physics and informatics to study of literature and philosophy, provided rare opportunity to have a look at the variety of research activity of the university. The exhibition of scientific papers was a successful introduction of the event which the elite of NCFU teaching staff and students came to attend. It was the opening of the research and practice conference "University science for the region”.

NCFU Rector A.A. Levitskaya opened that conference. She introduced the guests: the Head of Federal Youth Agency "Rosmolodezh”, S.Yu. Belokonev who participated in the meeting before the conference where the questions of cooperation between FYA "Rosmolodezh” and NCFU were discussed. Also Alina Levitskaya introduced the Chairman of the Committee for Education and Science of the Duma of Stavropol region, Lyudmila Kuzyakova, Deputy Minister for Education of Stavropol region Basil Lyamin. Pro-Rector for Scientific Activities of NCFU, Professor, Oleg Rybakov took part in the opening ceremony.

– Probably, you noticed the attention that has been recently given by the President of Russia to science. V.V. Putin emphasized that the very scientific achievements predetermined development of culture, economy and the whole society. Science has to penetrate the educational process. Then academic progress and attendance problems will automatically disappear. A student who is interested in the research work doesn’t need any control. Therefore one of the major tasks is to engage our young colleagues in this type of activity. In this field we will be able to solve the first strategic task of NCFU that is to raise quality of training. The second strategic task is connected with science – to achieve the level of the best universities in the world. We have all necessary for successful activity: outstanding teachers, gifted students. I am sure that we will achieve the goal. 500 of 18000 full-time students prepared reports to participate in today’s conference. 1500 of 2000 odd teachers presented their reports. I can say that almost all our teachers will take part in this work.  It is not the time to say if it is many or few participants. Let’s just remember these figures. In 3-5 years we will compare the data and tell: "We had such figures as the start point. And now we have one of the best levels of scientific work and finance in the world. We earn money by our knowledge and implementation of our achievements.” I believe it will be like this!

Addressing to the students the Rector wished them to become professors after a while. "It’s a poor soldier that never wants to become a general”, A.A. Levitskaya said.

Sergei Belokonev supported A.A. Levitskaya’s main idea. He thanked NCFU management for the opportunity to speak to people who develop science, form knowledge of the younger generation. It is very important to support the status of a young scientist. It is one of fundamental fields of activities for "Rosmolodezh”. Support of the youth projects at "Seliger” and "Mashuk” forums is the part of this work.

Belokonev emphasized that he considered the idea of establishment of unique development centers of scientific and research activities such as federal universities, including NCFU, as the right one. The gifted graduates of NCFU and other educational institutions of the same training level will soon have the best perspectives.

The Head of "Rosmolodezh” noted that the implementation plan of a number of projects had been worked out in cooperation with North-Caucasus Federal University. Mineral Waters Region will host the big student summit. The university will be the ground for the seminar of young journalists and bloggers. It is not the full list of the planned joint events.

Ending his speech he advised each young person to write a dissertation because it would not only help to get good knowledge but also form a personality.

The Chairman of the Committee for Education and Science of the Duma of Stavropol region, Lyudmila Kuzyakova emphasized importance of scientific research results in the economic and social development of the region. NCFU’s contribution to this sphere is significant. Many highly qualified specialists graduate from the university and join the management and industrial structures. Implementation of the university scientists’ innovations expedites development of different spheres of real economy. That is why "University science for the region” conference will be an important event in the region.

Deputy Minister for Education of Stavropol region Basil Lyamin also emphasized that nowadays science penetrated into all spheres of life. In this respect great expectations are connected with NCFU. He told about contribution of the university to training of teachers, opportunities for a lot of young people from the North-Caucasus Federal District. Basil Lyamin wished the conference to be successful and expressed assurance that it would result in closer cooperation of academic knowledge and practice.

9 reports of the leading scientists of the university were presented at the plenary session. Then the conference continued its work in sections.

On April 5 three-week parade of modern university scientific results oriented to the real assistance to the development of North Caucasus.
