"To be always busy is the cheapest and one of the most efficient medicines”

Every time we choose heroes for our column we are surprised how many gifted, single-minded and initiative students are at our university. Every sphere of student life has its own leaders. Somebody has scientific achievements not only at the university, city level but also at federal one. Somebody shows himself as the talented organizer. Others made everybody delighted with their creative abilities. However there are those who are able to combine different talents.

Don’t you believe? Please meet Natalya Tumanova. She is the fourth-year student of Institute of Oil and Gas, Chairman of Student Council of the institute, excellent student, holder of the scholarship of the President and the Government of the Russian Federation, sportswoman, volunteer and, finally, beautiful girl.

– I have a lot of hobbies: journalism (I am a member of the student press centre and report on events at our institute), I write verse (I wrote all the scenario in verse for "Student spring” at our institute), the English language (I obtain the second qualification on the speciality of "Translator in professional communication”), I like reading very much, currently I am reading books in English, several times I took the first place in the Olympics in English. I always loved dancing and sport that’s why now I am a member of the cheerleader team of our institute. I take active part in the student self-government. I also bead.

- You have a lot of hobbies. Is it difficult to study geology which is very serious and not woman’s profession?

– "Geology of oil and gas” speciality is in the blood. All members of my family are geologists. They were among those people who had come from Grozny Institute of Oil to Stavropol and taken active part in establishment of our Faculty of Oil and Gas. I like research activity. Moreover I build different maps, 3D models and it is very interesting. I am the author and coauthor of more than a dozen published research papers and theses.

- What is the basis of your interest for the student self-government?

- I like public activity. I like the statement "To be always busy is the cheapest and one of the most efficient medicines” and completely agree with this point of view. I think that a person should always develop himself and know something new. That’s why I have a lot of hobbies. I would like to try everything.

- What about your volunteer activity?

- It is a new activity for me. I have started performing this activity since NCFU establishment and during cooperation with the Department for Youth Policy, which is always glad to meet new people and ready to help them, and taken part in several campaigns and liked it. Half a year ago I sent the request and was chosen as a volunteer at Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games.

– Why did you suddenly decide to take part in that event?

- The Olympics is a mega event which one cannot miss, especially when it is held in our country! Moreover the volunteer movement at the Olympics is the opportunity to see the Olympics from within, communicate with sportsmen and participate in the organization of this big event!

- Was it difficult to become the volunteer?

- I should overcome a lot of obstacles to become the volunteer at Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games: to pass online test of abilities and manager’s qualities and the English knowledge test. I successfully passed the tests and should have personal interview with an employee of the volunteer centre. I had personal interview on Skype because I am a member of Sochi volunteer centre. The interview lasted for about an hour and I should remember and tell a lot of stories from my life showing these or that qualities. We also spoke in English about the Olympic games.

Quite recently, on March 11-13 I have been taking the courses for volunteers at Sochi State University. We were told about Sochi, history of the Olympic and Paralympic games, volunteer’s work and qualities which he should have. Next courses will be held in autumn. The Olympics for me is new impressions, new experience, new contacts and possibility to show your abilities and be useful to your country.

- Where do you find time and strength from?

- I do not know. Great desire helps me. If I did not have it then I would not have any time. I am interested in different spheres and want to try my strength in everything. That’s why I combine everything. But the most important thing for me is to graduate from the university and continue my studying at the Master’s programme and postgraduate course. I would also like to try myself at the international level. Internship or studying abroad is very useful and interesting!

- What can you wish NCFU first-year students and prospective students?

- Notwithstanding a lot of opportunities to show their creative abilities and talents, first of all, they need to study. We enter a university to get knowledge but, of course, we should not forget about self-development. Participation in different spheres helps to know new information, meet interesting people and know oneself from another side, show one’s hidden potential. The most important is to learn how to combine such important spheres as studying and public life.
